The 2019 71st AACC Scientific Meeting and Clinical Expo has been a wonderful educational experience. Meeting topics have focused all areas of Laboratory Medicine from data analytics, to genomics, infectious diseases and a host of other broad areas.
Tuesday afternoon I attended a point of care session with a focus of molecular POC. One of the speakers was Leslie Donato from Mayo Clinic who discussed Mayo Clinic, Rochester implementation of Group A Strep molecular testing. It was a great learning experience to hear the steps that were taken to implement the testing and issues and problems faced and solutions that were reached.
We are only going to see more POC molecular testing and if you are not doing it, best to get prepared! An interactive presentation on digital medicine and health was a shocker to me when I realized the number of devices available to patients to monitor their health and the potential some of these have to have connectivity to the EHR. I could go on for pages!
Being a regular attendee of this annual gathering and reminiscing about the technology discussed twenty years and that being discussed today is mind numbing! If you have never come to this gathering, I strongly urge you to consider the 72nd meeting in Chicago next summer.
